Columbus Alive, OH - As the son of Ivan Reitman, who’s helmed his share of blockbusters (Stripes, Ghostbusters), Jason Reitman had a leg up when it came to starting a filmmaking career. The younger Reitman built his reputation not at the box office, however, but on the film festival circuit. His debut feature, the 2005 satire Thank You For Smoking, was first embraced at the Toronto International Film Festival, where two studios got into a public war over the right to distribute it. Reitman’s kicked up even more dust with his latest, Juno. After another rave-generating premiere in Toronto and screenings at the Telluride Film Festival, it became the biggest buzz-generator of the 2007 holiday movie season… [Full Story] Related Articles |

Knightley shines in ‘Atonement’ but don’t suggest actress prefers… - The Canadian Press
Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

The Canadian Press - Keira Knightley may be well-known to movie viewers for her Oscar-nominated turn in “Pride and Prejudice” and her feisty performances in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, but don’t make the mistake of suggesting the actress has a penchant for period pieces.
“I always find it kind of mind-boggling that for some reason if you do a film set in 1780 it’s exactly the same as doing a film set in 1930 all under this guise of a period film,” says Knightley, an icy tone creeping into her voice.
“Maybe I’m just missing something there, but I think that I try and change as much as possible. And I’ve done a lot of present-day films, you know, with ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ and ‘Love, Actually’ and ‘Pure’ and ‘Domino’ and ‘The Jacket.’
“I like period movies. … I love history. I love the fact that if you do a historical piece you can dive into that fiction. It’s easier to escape into a fantasy, because the world is not the world that we know, it’s one that you need imagination to see into and I find that very exciting.”
Knightley’s latest release, “Atonement,” once again finds the wafer-thin brunette reaching into the past… [Full Story]

Village Voice
Village Voice, NY - Juno marks the second film for director Jason Reitman and the first for screenwriter Diablo Cody, author of the Pussy Ranch blog, which, surprisingly, has very little to do with baby kittens. Reitman, having made his debut with a swaggering adaptation of Christopher Buckley’s Thank You for Smoking, is said to have done little to Cody’s screenplay about a too-smart teen preggers with a baby she’s planning to give away to a barren couple of yups; word is, the final script isn’t so different from the first draft even, which is mighty impressive once you get past the early-going rough patches that are more Wes Anderson than even Wes Anderson could imagine. With The Kinks’ “Well-Respected Man” blaring on the soundtrack in the first 15 minutes, you’re likely to get the indie-film shakes… [Full Story]
