09:00 – 10:45 A Serious Man (SCOTIABANK THEATRE 1) - 259 Richmond St W, Toronto, ON

I was in box 36.
what is going on this year??? if early morning showings on a "weekday" are sold out in box 36, then i may as well forget the whole thing, I'm in box 44 and havent heard anything, what happens if there are not enough showings available to use up your pass that you have paid for. did they hold back too many seats??
i'm very discouraged
Don't be too freaked out yet. I was in 28. While I didn't get the morning 2nd show of triage (go figure, eh?), I did get Imaginarium, Capitalism, the Premiere of Baaria in visa, the Premiere of The Road and other much more high profile things.
As far as there being enough showings... there will always be tickets to SOMETHING available. It just might not be what you want. On the other hand, it turns out well sometimes - i couldn't get what i wanted last year and picked up a ticket to something called slumdog millionaire instead... :)
Yeah, I wouldn't be too worried. Part of the availability also depends on which theater your movies are playing in. The sold out movies listed here are all showing at smaller theaters (well, I'm not too familiar with Isabel Bader, but I think it's probably small too)
I think I was in box 20 and I got all of my first choices and most of them were first showings/at prime time. And most of my picks were at Ryerson which has a pretty big theater.
Isabel Bader has 500 seats. My only pick (of 29; box 8) that was not available:
A Single Man (Mon. Sept. 14, 9:30-11:15 pm, Isabel Bader)
I'm surprised that that morning showing of Triage is sold out. I've got the Saturday night screening, but was going to trade for the Monday morning (flip flopping with Bran Nue Day), but I guess not.
I was also (pleasantly) surprised to have gotten a number of Elgin screenings, including Broken Embraces on the opening Thursday.
I am wondering if they will let us exchange vouchers tomorrow for the premium tickets at the Visa Screening Room? They did honour their mistake they made in the advance order book.
I was in box #37.
Of my 10 first picks, the only ones I didn't get were:
The White Ribbon (Sat am)
Accident (Fri pm)
I kind of guessed I wouldn't get The White Ribbon, but I can't believe I didn't get Accident. And, of course, I didn't make a 2nd pick for that one, so I have one ticket to exchange tomorrow.
Overall, did way better than I thought.
I agree with Stephen. Some of the folks who used the You Choose package actually got better tickets than the ones, including myself, who bought the Programmers Choose package. And we spent nearly twice as much.
Up in the Air on Saturday the 12th is sold out but does anyone know if the screening on Saturday the 19th is still available?
just a reminder, If you didnt get a showing, and are going to trade in your coupon, always ask if the one you were denied if now suddenly available, (someone could be trading it in as we speak) today I got a few that were denied as first or second choices and all of a sudden I got them back!
Do some tickets become available for films tomorrow that weren't available today, like what happens for same day tickets?
I look forward to the day when the whole lottery system is no more. Ridiculous.
I just checked the TIFF website and there were a lot of tickets released for screenings coming up in the next few days. I managed to get a ticket for Up in the Air for Sunday, Sept. 13th - 11AM - Visa Screening Room, which I wanted. As far as the lottery system, I am not sure what better way to do it? I think it is the most fair and best way to do. If anyone has any suggestions as to a better way, lets disucss it?
There were definitely a whole batch of tickets released this morning for previously off-sale screenings. I managed to get tickets to the Monday evening screening of The Invention of Lying at the Elgin, which was has been listed as "off-sale" since September 4th. Anyone who didn't get the tickets they really wanted should check the website again this morning.
steveds, they could still do early sales of voucher packs, but then put all tickets on a web-based sales system where you could either redeem vouchers (they'd show up as a credit on your account) or purchase using VISA. Of course, they'd need to make sure they had enough bandwidth to cope with the volume to be expected on opening day of ticket sales, but it would give everyone the same chance at tickets. The lottery is a hangover from the days of 100% paper. I'm sure it costs a fortune to run it. What I know for sure is that it costs a fortune for anyone who can't go to the box office in person during lottery time, but needs to use the out-of-town system. And THAT's truly unfair.
I had the same experience this morning - I was able to get tickets for the Sept 11 3 p.m. screening of Creation and the Sept 12 4 p.m. screening of The Vintner's Luck. Both had been "off sale."
I still hope to get the Sept 12 morning screening of An Education and the Sunday evening screening of Giulia Doesn't Date at Night.
We live in NY and this is our 4th year attending TIFF. I've never had a problem getting tickets at the last minute once we've arrived in Toronto - every time I tried the morning of a screening, I was successful.
See you all on Friday. We are planning on 3 screenings a day for 5 days!
Thank ye, TIFF gods. Just ordered a ticket to An Education tonight at the Ryerson. It had previously been off-sale. I thought I might have to get up early on Saturday morning to do the rush line for the second screening, but now I get to see two movies tonight: An Education and Broken Embraces.
Don't forget to check availability in the morning (7am) for same-day screenings, folks. Previously off-sale films may become available.
