Each year it's a little worse. I've come to a point of resignation. It doesn't seem to matter what people say, what announcements are made, how much the tickets were, whether someone is sitting across the aisle from the director...they chat like they are in their living room watching a DVD and then, at a key moment in the film, pull out the cell phone to check messages or text.
"I'm meeting someone for the next film and I had to check where they were in line."
"Everybody does it."
"Sorry, I didn't know it was on."
I just don't get it. It is almost like an addiction of some sort. It seems like most people know it is rude or wrong but they either don't care or just do it as an involuntary reaction.
Anybody have any thoughts on this? I'm beyond trying to think if there is anything to do about it. I'm just trying to understand it.
