I find this woman to be annoying. I hate when she's the one running the introduction and q&a's.
Who's the TIFF "anything short of a pacemaker" moderator?

Haha, I have no clue, but I'm not a fan of her either. She snapped at a guy for saying "Arrrgh" when she said read off the anti-piracy line and told him "that was so 2007" (and I don't believe she was joking when she said that)
I like the midnight madness moderator.

Yes. Colin Geddes rocks.

That's retarded. She snapped at a guy for saying ARGH, when she uses the same fucking pacemaker line year after year. I hate her!

Are we talking Jane Schoettle? I like her.
Her best line came without her even being present. At the screening of The Topp Twins documentary (the Topp Twins are Kiwi lesbian country-singing comedic performers), she was not able to attend, so one of the other programmers read her introduction. There was a line that went something like: After you see this film, I think you'll agree that the world needs more Topps! (This was followed by a cackle from the gay people in the audience who got that joke.)

I thought a lot of the moderators were particularly peevish this year, especially given how many late starts there were. My bigger annoyance, though, rather than attitude was how self-aggrandizing many of them are. Do we really need five minutes on why YOU programmed the film, what YOU think of the filmmaker, and how AWESOME the film we are about to see is? Some of the moderators seem to be of the impression that we are at the festival to see them. We're not.

That's one view, but I've come to appreciate them as much as the celebrities that attend. I mean, aren't they the reason the film is being shown in the first place? If you're about to see a movie you've been anticipating for months on end, it's them you have to thank for it. Let 'em have their five minutes.

I haven't had that problem (talking about themselves) with the programmers at my films this year. I agree with Jamie that they, too, are personalities of the festival, and I look forward to my annual viewing of Piers, Cameron, Michelle, Noah, Jane, Giovanna, Dmitri, Matthew, Steve (actually, I haven't had Steve Gravestock introduce any of my movies this year), and others.
Sometimes the junior programmers introduce a film or do the Q&A, and I always *want* them to say their name. I want to know who these people are. They're an important part of the festival. After all, they are the ones who select the films in the first place.
